How to Generate and Submit Applications

The Applications page helps you draft grant applications ready for submission to funders.

Important: We Do Not Submit For You

Note: Fundsorter drafts your applications but we do not submit applications on your behalf. Once you have edited your draft application and you're happy with the responses, hit the "Email me a copy" button. We'll email you the drafted application responses, along with details on where to make your submission.

Step 1: Generate your application

Click 'Funding Opportunities' in the main menu, then on your Funding Request click 'View Results'. Identify the opportunity you want to apply for, and click 'Draft my application'. Fundsorter will create a first draft of your application. The system uses information from your Funding Profile and the Funding Request to answer the questions.

Step 2: Edit and refine your draft

It's essential you carefully review all generated material to ensure it is accurate and a good representation of your organisation and work.

  • Edit answers: To edit an answer, click the pencil icon  to edit the text. This is useful when the required change is simple to make.
  • Regenerate answers: To have the system re-write the whole answer, click the recycle button. You need to provide a short prompt or instructions about the change you would like made. This is useful to change the answer length or tone of voice.
  • Information icon: Click the icon to see the system's rationale for the answer it generated. This will highlight if you should update your charity profile or funding request to provide more information.
  • Check other requirements: The system will list any additional requirements from the funder that you need to submit. A common example is to provide proof of bank account details. You will need to source and provide these independently.
  • Update status: The application status can be edited at the top of the page. You can also set the owner of the application, and make notes for internal purposes. This is helpful when your organisation has multiple users, and with application tracking.

Step 3: Submit your application to the funder

When you’re satisfied with the application, at the top right of the page click the 'Email me a copy' button. The following process outlines how to submit your application to the funder.

  • Check your email: The application is emailed to the user who clicked the ‘Email me a copy’ button. This email contains all your drafted answers and details on where to make your submission.
  • Go to the funder's portal: In the email, click the funder's application URL. This will take you to their website or application portal.
  • Log in or sign up: You may need to create an account with that funder or log in to their existing portal.
  • Complete the funder's form: Funders have different processes. Some may have an online form, while others may require you to download and fill out a document. Follow the funder's specific instructions.
  • Copy and paste: Copy your drafted answers from the email and paste them into the corresponding fields in the funder's application form.
  • Upload additional documents: Remember to submit any other documents required by the funder, such as proof of bank account details.
  • Application tracking: Keep the status of each application updated on the Applications page. This helps track progress against funding goals, and stay on top of accountability reporting deadlines.

Tips for a great application

Troubleshoot content

If you find an answer with incorrect information, click the Information icon to see if it came from your Charity Profile or Funding Request. Edit the information at the source, then return to your application and regenerate the answer.

Add specific details

Always review generated applications for accuracy. Improve them by adding specific examples, data points, and stories that make your request compelling.

Maintain consistency

Fundsorter strives to match the tone of voice from your source materials, but always review the draft to ensure it aligns with your brand.
